Here is a working sample of the compost method and the visual result. Here is a list issues my current environment.
Anaerobic - my compost is almost always anaerobic. The reason: too many greens than browns. Of course if it's anaerobic you could be sure the get a whiff of BAD SMELL.
Compost everything - my compost includes all kitchen and meal wastes. There are many out there in the internet that tells you it is not advisable to include meat, eggs, bones, etc in you vermicompost. I agree, I just don't follow this. My priority is composting, the by product of my composting is used as 'browns' and not so much for planting.
Compost uniformity and duration - since I include bones and big seeds and hard shells ( mango seeds, avocado seeds, fish bones, meat bones) these takes longer to compose as I don't have any equipment for crushing these things. So in a pail, not all are composted at the same time.
There's no turning back. Maintaining this website somewhat made me choose to actively participate in the composting processes. There's a lot of thinking going on. Also, there's a sense of accomplishment whenever a cycle of composting is achieved. That me happy somewhat.
I'll try to convey my thoughts on my composting activity as best I could. Putting it in writing and thinking it -- there's a big difference. I need to get used to this eventually.
My ultimate goal for composting is to take care of our own house hold food waste and some other biodegradable so it doesn't have to be collected and thrown somewhere.
Bearing in mind that I only have limited space, limited equipment -- about 20 sq ft (1.5 sqm) and - 10 3-gallon plastic pails 3 5-gallon plastic pails and 4 clay pots. I have to compost fast or suffer the bad smell because of the composting being anaerobic.
Watching youtube videos about composting is fun but it doesn't seem to fit my system. I don't have cow manure, I don't have lots of leaves in my house hold. It's a bonus if i get a hand on some wood chippings/shavings from time to time. They are a great 'balancer' - I'll tell in another part part of this website. The goal of most of the youtube videos I watched is to use the compost in the garden.
Not in my case. So what do I use my compost for? If there's a lot of it, maybe think of planting something. The thing is, a household of three will not give me much compost to plant a lot. So I used to RECYCLE the compost that I made. Wha? It's not at all new - using the very same compost as a bedding for the new compost works great for me. I can say that this made composting faster.
What about harvesting the worms? --> I don't harvest the worms. I'm just happy I could see worms whenever I scoop up compost. It means the compost is in its environment.
One main key to keep the compost environment to just moist. Not dry nor wet -- just moist. You can err on both ends but not too much. Keeping this balance is the challenge and at the same the key to a faster composting of my kitchen and food wastes.
