Like any other individual, there comes a time that I wonder how I can actively contribute to taking responsibility for my living. The most easy and interesting for me to do is composting. I live in an urban area and most rural area I visited doesn't do any kind of composting. None that I know of.
The Internet is a big help in providing information about composting, vermicomposting specifically.
From where I live, commercial composting equipment is hard to come by especially if you are financially limited. However, there are a ton of DIY vermicomposting available that can suit anybody. This is the way I did it.
I started this composting project 10 year of more and it still takes care of my household wastes. Ten (10) years or more and my composting is not "perfect". On the other hand, it basically accomplishes what it is suppose to accomplish, takes care of my household compost-able wastes.
My project currently does not produces a lot of worms. And there are a lot more other methods I am ignoring but otherwise, I still manage to take care most of my household kitchen waste.
I will try to create a journal using this website and take notes of all the happening found in my little composting corner.
For more than ten (10) years, my composting has me going. Our household generally don't keep smelly garbage because kitchen wastes goes to the little composting corner.
